Reliable separation and efficient group-type quantitation of extractable petroleum hydrocarbons

This paper describes the analysis of total petrochemical hydrocarbons (TPH) in environmental media using flow-modulated GCxGC–FID with quantitation on the basis of pre-defined compound groupings.

We show that use of this system overcomes the drawbacks of conventional solvent fractionation approaches, and describe in detail how laboratory workflow can be improved by use of pre-defined software stencils for robust, automated quantitation.
