Hyper-fast GC–FID for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons

WP063Accurate measurement of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) is essential for environmental risk assessment, site investigation and regulatory compliance. While GC–FID remains the established technique for TPH analysis, conventional methods can suffer from long cycle times that limit laboratory throughput. This white paper evaluates the use of hyper-fast GC–FID for rapid TPH analysis in soil and water matrices, while maintaining compliance with methods such as ISO 16703 and ISO 9377-2 (DIN H53)

Using flow-field thermal gradient technology, hyper-fast GC enables high-resolution separations with injection-to-injection cycle times of just 3.5 minutes. The study demonstrates excellent repeatability, linear calibration across a wide concentration range, and low carryover, while supporting the analysis of more than 400 samples per day.
