Introduction to GC×GC

Presenter: Tadeusz Górecki, University of Waterloo, Canada

Outline: In this presentation you will gain an understanding of the fundamentals of GC×GC. Professor Górecki will first give a refresher of basic chromatographic principles, and will then introduce GC×GC, including its development, modulation, and example applications.

Variable-energy electron ionisation for GC×GC forensic blood VOC profiling

Presenter: Jef Focant, University of Liège, Belgium

Outline: In this presentation you will learn about some of the work performed by Professor Focant's research group into the analysis of human odour, including important application areas such as VOC profiling of blood for tracking of injury victims, the recovery and rescue of trapped victims, and crime scene investigations. The talk will demonstrate how GC×GC is an ideal technology for these studies, and will describe methodologies that have been developed for this work.

Identifying the unknown from engine exhaust emissions using GC×GC-ToF-MS and soft EI

Presenter: M. Salim Alam, University of Birmingham, UK

Outline: This presentation will outline Dr Alam’s work on the FASTER project – examining the source, properties and behaviour of exhaust particles in the urban atmosphere. Specifically, he will demonstrate the use of GC×GC–TOF MS with variable-energy ionisation for confident identification of challenging hydrocarbon isomers in fuels and exhaust emissions.

Innovative GC×GC data processing: A tour through ChromSpace

Presenter: Laura McGregor, Markes International Ltd, UK

Outline: In this presentation Dr McGregor will provide an overview of a new software platform, ChromSpace, that has been designed specifically for GC×GC. She will describe its time-saving instrument control and data processing functionality, and will outline the analytical benefits to users of GC×GC, including sophisticated peak merging, flexible data navigation and streamlined workflows.
