Comparing aroma profiles of whisky by SPME–GCxGC–TOF MS and tile-based chemometrics

The poster entitled “Comparing aroma profiles of whisky by SPME–GCxGC–TOF MS and tile-based chemometrics” was presented by SepSolve Analytical at Pittcon, Philadelphia, 18-20 March 2023.

Over 1000 compounds from a wide range of chemical classes are known to contribute to the aroma of whisky, including alcohols, phenolics, and esters. Confidently identifying these volatiles, for quality control and authentication purposes, as well as the engineering of new aromas, can be a challenge.

This poster demonstrates how solid-phase micro-extraction (SPME) coupled with comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography and time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GCxGC–TOF MS) provides the separation capacity to screen the entire range of aroma compounds of whiskies in a single analysis, with confident identification of compounds.
